Is It Right for You
When a Heat Pump Makes Sense
You heat with electricity already. If your current heat is electric resistance, a heat pump is a straightforward win. It delivers several times the heat for the same electricity.
You need to replace both systems. A heat pump does both jobs with one outdoor unit, so replacing an aging AC and furnace together is the natural moment to consider it.
You want one system, not two. Fewer pieces of equipment, one maintenance visit, and no gas appliance in the house if that matters to you.
You have no gas service. On plenty of rural properties out here there is no gas main, and propane is not cheap. A heat pump avoids the fuel question entirely.
Dual fuel is worth considering. Pairing a heat pump with a gas furnace lets the system use whichever is cheaper at a given temperature. It costs more up front and it is a genuinely good setup.

Is a heat pump a good idea in North Texas?
Generally yes. Our cooling season is long and our winters are mild, which is the profile heat pumps suit best. The main exception is a home with cheap natural gas heat already installed, where the savings are smaller and harder to justify.
What is dual fuel and do I need it?
Dual fuel pairs a heat pump with a gas furnace. The heat pump handles mild weather efficiently and the furnace takes over in a hard freeze, with the system switching automatically. It costs more up front and it is the most comfortable and most efficient setup available here.
What is a balance point and why does it matter?
It is the outdoor temperature below which the heat pump can no longer keep up alone and backup heat is allowed to engage. Set it too high and expensive electric strips run on mild days. It is a configuration setting, it costs nothing to get right, and it is very often wrong.
Will I need backup heat?
Almost always, yes. Electric strips or a gas furnace cover the coldest hours. What matters is that they are staged to come on only when genuinely needed rather than alongside the heat pump by default.
How long does installation take?
A typical changeout is a day. Adding duct work, converting from a different system type, or running new electrical can extend it, and we will tell you which situation yours is before the day arrives.
Can I finance a heat pump?
Yes. HMS offers financing through our partner. The application is online, decisions usually come back quickly, and approved work goes on the schedule.
