A drain that backs up every few months is not really a drain problem. It is a pipe problem that gets temporarily relieved every time somebody runs a cable through it. The clearing is real and it works, and then the same roots grow back through the same joint, or the same low section fills with the same standing water, and you are on the phone again.

Signs the Line Itself Is the Problem
The same backup, on a schedule. A line that blocks every few months has a defect. Clearing relieves the symptom and the calendar keeps running.
Several fixtures backing up together. When two or more drains fail at once the problem is downstream of all of them, in the main line rather than any trap.
Gurgling from toilets and tubs. Air being pulled past standing water in a partly blocked line. It usually starts long before the first real backup.
Patches of lush grass or wet ground. An unusually green strip across the yard, or soft ground with no rain, can mean the line is leaking underneath it.
An older property with clay or cast iron. Pipe of that age is what roots find and what the soil movement out here eventually pulls apart at the joints.

How do I know if I need a sewer repair rather than a drain cleaning?
The pattern tells you. A one-off blockage after years of trouble-free drains is a clog. A line that backs up every few months, or several fixtures failing together, points at a defect in the pipe itself. A camera settles it in one visit rather than guessing.
What does a camera inspection actually show?
The inside of the line and how far along any problem sits. Roots at a joint, a belly holding standing water, a crack, an offset where two sections have shifted apart, or simply heavy build-up. It also locates the defect so a repair means digging one hole rather than several.
Why do sewer lines fail so often around here?
Expansive clay soil. It swells when wet and shrinks when dry, and that seasonal movement gradually shifts buried pipe. Over years it pulls joints apart and creates low spots where waste collects. Older clay and cast iron lines are the most vulnerable.
Can tree roots be removed permanently?
The roots can be cut out, but the tree will send them back to the same place because that is where the water is. Cutting buys you time, often a year or two. Repairing or replacing the compromised section is what actually ends it.
Do I have to dig up my whole yard?
Usually not. Most repairs we do are a single excavation at a known defect, which is exactly why the camera inspection is worth doing first. Full line replacement happens, but it is not the default answer.
Is a sewer backup an emergency?
If wastewater is coming back into the house, yes. Stop using water in the house and call. Beyond the mess, it is a health issue, and continuing to run water makes it worse rather than pushing it through.
